Some News...

I love how sensitive the news reporting agencies have become over the years. Editors worldwide must really be growing up or something. I support this assumption with the link to this news story about a woman that was killed by her car (which she left running and in gear) when she stopped to visit her husband’s grave on Sunday afternoon. They really show a great deal of empathy when they say, "She was about 50 feet from her husband’s grave when the car mowed her down." Bravo, AP…bravo. Way to show your soft side there, guys.

Good LORD, the government is full of stupid-heads. What kind of idea is this? A stupid one…I mean, I don’t even PAY for my own gas. Hello!!! Don’t need to send me money, thankyouverymuch! If we have an extra $10 billion lying around, wouldn’t it be put to better use by improving programs for foster kids or orphans or just some sort of education need in general? CHRIST!! What idiot came up with the idea, and why are there people that agreed with him enough to push it into an actual position as a proposal?? Goddammit, I’m tired of politicians.

Soooo, when I turn 60, I’ll suddenly lose any and all desire I might have to want to watch a good porn now and then? I mean, I could do without the gangsta rap, to be quite honest, but ordering a porn in the comfort of my home is an option I’ll always be grateful for. I haven’t done it in a long time, but back when I was single, and all? Yeah, it wasn’t unusual to see an "additional charge" on my cable bill now and again. How much porn can one watch for $1,000, anyway? I just don’t know what to believe in this case, as we ARE talking about an older woman versus a member of the evil empire known ‘round the world as The Cable Company. You decide.

Enough with the world news (which, of course, in my teeny, tiny corner of it all consists of useless stories about people that died in funky ways, overcharging for porn, and a governmental plan that will – hopefully – never see the light of day)…on with my own life.

On Saturday, I received the letter from Humana about them denying coverage for me. I can’t figure out what they’re denying me coverage for, but my overall cholesterol does appear a bit high, and apparently, my triglycerides are high as well. And while I’m not exactly sure why either of those things are as high as they are, I can’t fight the fact that it says they are what they are based on blood tests. So I looked up some of the causes of high triglycerides, and what it can be symptomatic of, and basically I found out that a diet rich in fats and sugars in conjunction with a sedate lifestyle can cause them to be high. Also, if one has a low level of the good cholesterol, a.k.a. LDL’s, then you could be at risk for heart disease and diabetes and the like. But here’s the deal: I DON’T eat a diet rich in fats, and I work out 3 – 5 times a week. My LDL cholesterol is normal, and I don’t have high blood pressure or high blood sugar either.

So what could be causing my triglycerides to be high? Hm…one of the causes of high triglycerides is birth control. Do I take birth control? YES! Yes, I do take birth control. Oh, and hypothyroidism can also be a cause of high triglycerides, and I’m not quite sure that isn’t a problem for me. While I don’t have any major symptoms of hypothyroidism (course and thinning hair, yellowish tint to the skin, slow body movements, inability to tolerate cold, constipation – we know that ain’t a problem!, and heavy periods, just to mention a few), I could have what they call mild or subclinical hypothyroidism, which apparently doesn’t have a whole lot of symptoms to clue one in on whether they have it or not.

Anyway, I’ve already taken additional measures to try to make my body happy again. I bought brown rice and wheat berries this weekend, and will be making dinner even more healthy than it has been as of late, if that’s possible. I already eat rather healthy lunches (turkey sammiches with mustard and no mayo, or salads with loads of veggies, etc…), and I think that breakfast has been ok, but maybe I need to eat less oatmeal and more egg whites. I dunno. I’m planning on visiting with a doctor soon so I can figure it all out. Maybe see a nutritionist, or something. Because I don’t get it. My body hates me. I’ve learned to deal with it, since it doesn’t attack me in an overt fashion very often. I haven’t even had a cold since last year. I get stomach aches now and then from the roughage I consume, but that’s about the extent of my issues. My back hurts when I try to extend myself in ways I shouldn’t during yoga on Tuesdays, but I think I’ve figured out how to keep that from happening, finally. So really, Humana turning me down for coverage is a stupendously idiotic decision on their part. They’re basically turning down $1,000 a year from a healthy chick. And I don’t get that. But whatev. Time to look at new options…

Ok, I gotta pee, and I need to get some work done. Hope everyone has a great morning!

I have hypothyroidism (no yellow skin, but damn I need to poop). It's a simple test to see if you have it...blood test to check your TSH level (thyroid stimulating hormone). If you have it, it's as simple as one pill a day.

Good luck with all that, insurance companies can kiss my constipated ass.
