Elevator conversation...

Guy 1: "I think they're 2 hours behind. 1 hour or 2 hours...wait, are they on Pacific time?"
Guy 2: "2 hours behind, I think."
Me: "Are you talking about Las Vegas? It's 2 hours behind."
Guy 1: "That's what I thought. Is Las Vegas further west than Los Angeles?"
Me, pretty sure he was talking to Guy 2, but unable to control myself as I haven't had enough caffeine yet: [Laughing, including a snort...] "No, it's not."

Me: At my desk now...still can't stop giggling.

He was thinking of Reno, NV. Reno is west of Los Angeles.

Ok, in THAT case, how the HELL does someone confuse Reno with Vegas? Am I just special because I'm from California? Or because I know a bit about western US geography? I don't get it.

Ok, being the geographical 'tard that I am, my mind is completely blown that Reno is further west than LA.

And if you confuse Reno, with Vegas? You're a bigger 'tard than I am.

I'm thinking anonymous was being fecitious. There is no way Reno is further's in a state that is EAST of the entire state of California.

Holy crap. People scare me, dude. See? THIS is why I hate leaving my house. I'm gonna start getting everything delivered soon and I will never have to go anywhere.

It actually is west of LA, dude. Most of the state of Nevada lies in a position that is directly above most of the state of California. Reno is in a part of the state that bears left...and LA is east of it, technically.

I'm with you and Coley though. Not easy to confuse the biggest little city in the world with Sin City. But given the fact that there are LOADS of geographically challenged folks out there (don't even get me started on the continent of Africa. GAH!), I can admit I understand the confusion over the whole thing.

But anonymous was so sure that this guy "...was thinking of Reno, NV..." that it makes me wonder if the dude from the elevator reads my blog. Elevator Guy 1? Is that you?

Well kiss my grits...I was curious about this and looked it up. The latitude/longitude of LA is 33.93/118.40. The lat/long of Reno is 39.50/119.78.

Proven wrong and not afraid to admit it folks! But who is anonymous and why don't they display their name? Gah.
